Life Jackets for Kids

Infant Life Jackets

If you are a water sports enthusiast and have a baby you will have a big dilemma whether to take your baby with you for the water holiday or yourself avoiding the water holiday for the sake of your baby.If you are in a special situation where all of your near and dear family members are on a water holiday and you badly want to join them, but you are concerned with the safety and security of your baby.

One way you can deal with this is with infant life jackets. Taking your baby out on the water is totally fine if you have an approved infant lifejacket. Here are the few things you need to consider before choosing a life jacket for your baby.

The material:
The material with which jacket is made has to be flexible to adopt to different temperatures of water, soft – to ensure that it is not itchy, scratching the baby`s skin. Make sure that the material do not have any side effects on baby`s skin in the long term. There are many good life jackets made with materials like neoprene, nylon out there in the market. Remember that your baby has to stay in this jacket for a long time i.e as long as you are near the water bodies.

Safety:
Life jackets are categorized as type I, II, III, IV,V. the lower the type the more safety it offers. i.e type I life jacket is better and safer than type II. Type I life jacket is recommended for babies. Prefer the design with collar. It holds baby head up afloat in the water even though baby cannot swim and no one is holding on to baby. Practice this in a pool before hand and it will give you more confidence and also you can know if the vest needs to fit tighter, loose.

Comfort:
check for the right size and fit of the jacket. It should be neither too fit nor too loose. Also consider its ease of use. It should be easy for you to put on your baby.

Weight:
You are the one who are going to carry the baby in his life jacket almost all through the day. prefer a less weight one so that you don’t feel the burden of its weight.

US coast guard approval:
Check for US coast guard (USCG) approval label. These are tested and attested by USCG only if the required standards are reached. Do not invest in jackets without USCG approval as there are of no help in accidental situations.

Finally, whatever life jacket you buy for your baby they only reduce the risk or improve the safety, security. Parents` supervision is must. You may not be able to supervise your baby all the time or you may feel very restricted with the baby all the time on your lap and miss the fun, so better share the duty with your spouse or a friend. Take turns to watch out the baby. Have a planned and safe water holiday.
