Life Jackets for Kids - Boat safety for children
Here are some aspects to consider before purchasing.
Bright Color: Kids’ life jackets are available in many colorful choices these days. The best life jackets for kids are very bright colored so that they are visible from long distance and will assist in water rescue. Dark orange and yellow are bright colors. There are also life jackets with many cartoon characters on them like batman life jacket, spiderman life jacket which will make kids more ready to wear them. And your kid will be very thrilled when you buy them their favorite color or jacket with their favorite cartoon.
Safety locks:
even the jackets with safety locks are also available for the naughty kids to not to slip out of the life jacket
The fit and size:
the fit and size of the jacket should be appropriate to the physique and weight of the kid. It should neither be too tight or too loose. If it is too tight kids may not like to wear it or even remove it after a while. If the jacket is too loose kid may slide out of it or the jacket may not keep the face of the kid straight above the water i.e it does not do the primary duty for which it is worn. So, never think of giving a kid an adult`s life jacket. A good test for the size is when your raises his/her arm, the top of the jacket should not go above their ears
Nylon or neoprene fabric:
Nylon life jackets are little less expensive. Neoprene fabrics are softer and more comfortable. Though the nylon life jackets are less expensive they are not any inferior in terms of effectiveness and safety. You can safely opt for Nylon jacket if you want one in limited budget. But again some kids may prefer Neoprene fabric as they are more comfortable and less scratchy. Finally, its comfort vs. budget.
“US Coast guard (USCG)” label:
Check for “US coast guard” label inside the jacket which means it is tested and approved that it has minimum buoyancy for kid`s weight. Do not buy one without “US coast guard” label.
USCG has developed specifications and criteria for approved personal flotation devices (PFDs).
PFDs are categorized by types i.e, type I, II, III, IV or V.When considering the type I, II or III, generally lower the number better the performance.
Do not even think of going on a water holiday without pfd <personal flotation devices> i.e life jackets for kids. you cant take chances with kid`s. With a proper life jacket for kid you can have more fun on your water holiday not having to worry about your kid`s safety.
